We are casting 4 principals (2 men and 2 women), 7 supporting/ensemble roles, and an ensemble/chorus of 6-12 additional members. We seek actors of all races/ethnicities to play ages 18-60 for women and 18-100 for men. All roles require singing and most require dance/movement ability. Small stipends will be provided for principal roles. Actors do not need to be Catholic, but must be okay with working with lots of Catholics who love being Catholic, and performing for a largely Catholic audience.

For the Audition:

Please bring a headshot (photo clearly showing your face); a resume is optional but encouraged. We will audition groups of 6 in 30-minute slots; plan to be available the entire 30 minutes (sign up for a slot here). Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time to fill out an audition form. Please prepare a 32-bar song excerpt; a musical theatre selection is preferred. An accompanist will be provided; you must bring printed sheet music. You may also use an accompaniment track (on your phone, connecting to our Bluetooth speaker). You will also read from the script. Callbacks will include a dance portion. If you’re unable to be present at auditions, please contact Production Manager Veronica White at prodmanager@missedtheboattheatre.com about submitting a video audition.

Music selections from the show will be available soon, if you would prefer to audition using a song from the show.

About the Show:

Life, for Melvin, is as predictable as he can make it. In fact, he's working as an actuary, to create a world in which everyone around him is focused on avoiding risks. But one day Christa walks into his life and… life doesn't feel very predictable anymore. She isn't something he can write off. When his doctor calls him on the same day with a life-altering diagnosis, Melvin is faced with a decision he’s not likely to forget: will he spend the rest of his short and statistically insignificant life avoiding all risk, or will he take a chance on all the things he's been missing out on (like asking out a girl, reconnecting with old friends, or even going to the moon)?

Available Roles:

  • Christa: A hopeless CPA longing for more, 30s. Vocal range: F3-Db5 (Alto/Mezzo).

    Sally: A kindhearted rocket scientist. Christa’s sister & Deke’s significant other, 30s. Vocal range: Ab4-Eb5 (Mezzo/Soprano).

  • Melvin: A very nerdy actuary with no life, 30s. Vocal range: G2-A5 (Tenor).

Deke: An impulsive and zany lawyer. Melvin’s childhood friend, 30s. Vocal range: Bb3-G4 (Baritone/Tenor).

Old Man: A slightly hard-of-hearing but otherwise healthy centenarian, 50s-100s. Speaking.

  • Doctor: A prideful doctor with a slightly unorthodox bedside manner, 20s-50s.

Wedding Singer: A soulful and campy vocalist, 20s-30s.

Casino Lord: A slick and scheming owner of Shooting Star Casino, 30s-40s.

Lawyer: A well-read lawyer on retainer for Shooting Star Casino, 20s-40s.

Tycoon: A grandiose and ambitious CEO of Lunar Ventures, 30s. Rapping required.
