Auditions for Catholic Young Adults: The Musical

Missed the Boat Theatre is holding auditions for Catholic Young Adults: The Musical, a musical by Fr. Kyle Kowalczyk and Br. John Marmion Villa, directed by Christina Malloy. The musical will perform at Helen Houle Auditorium at Saint Agnes School (St. Paul) for at least 6 shows from June 20th-29th 2024.

Audition Location: Maternity of Mary, Catholic Church: 1414 Dale St N, St Paul, MN 55117

Audition Dates:

  •  Monday, February 26th, 6:30-9:30pm

  • Tuesday, February 27th, 6:30-9:30pm

  • Callbacks: Monday, March 4th, 6:30-9:30pm

We are casting 8 principals (4 men and 4 women), 4 supporting roles (3 men and 1 woman), and an ensemble of 6-12 members. We seek actors of all races/ethnicities to play ages 18-35 for women and 18-50 for men. All roles require singing ability. Some roles require dance ability. Stipends will be provided for principal roles commensurate with experience. Actors do not need to be Catholic, but must be okay with working with lots of Catholics who love being Catholic, and performing for a largely Catholic audience.

For the Audition:

Please bring a headshot (photo clearly showing your face); a resume is optional. We will audition groups of 6 in 30-minute slots; plan to be available the entire 30 minutes. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time to fill out an audition form (or fill out form in advance by downloading here). Please prepare a 32-bar song excerpt; a musical theatre selection is preferred. You may also use one of these selections from the show. An accompanist will be provided; you must bring printed sheet music. You may also use an accompaniment track (on your phone, connecting to our Bluetooth speaker). You will also read from the script. If you’re unable to be present at auditions, please contact christina@missedtheboattheatre.com about submitting a video audition.

About the Show:

At Catholic Beer Night, the CYAs hear a rumor that St. Stephen’s is closing! Can they rally together to find a way amidst the chaos of their own dating novenas, come-and-sees, and lust for Latin to beat the odds and do what no one ever expected a band of young adults to do… save the parish? Fr. Kyle Kowalczyk’s musical distills the essence of Catholic young adult subculture in an uncomfortably accurate, unexpectedly poignant, and reverently hilarious brew.
