This June, we're producing a heart-warming large-cast comedic adventure of a play: Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker.
You might recognize the author from the classic Our Town or the characters from the musical Hello, Dolly!, which was based on this play -- but The Matchmaker stands in its own right as a farcical yet vulnerable story about people of all ages and classes looking for love and a meaningful life in turn-of-the-20th-century New York. Wealthy merchant Horace Vandergelder, his two clerks, his niece, and her beau leave quiet Yonkers and take to New York City accompanied by the endearingly meddlesome matchmaker Dolly Levi. Hilarity ensues as they brush elbows with several lovely ladies, waiters out of their league, and an unexpected advocate for pursuing your dreams. This delightful farce is full of fast-paced physical comedy and heartfelt reflections on what’ll really make one happy.
